Athena’s Vote

By Andy Copeland

Allow me excuse for my sorrow and grief

I’ve quested the world and found no relief

There is no escape from a man’s own skin

That fleeting conclusion which came like a thief

But if you keep me in this cave of yours

Never to tread upon yonder shores

Left with a craving for joy in my heart

I’ll cry out in pain as the eagle soars

Let me have Athena’s vote

I already saw the word she wrote

I’ll give you my oath: if I walk today

From me you will hear not a single note
